The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.
Christian
response to Spirituality
By Eric William King
Today
many seek spiritual answers in occult knowledge and philosophical
knowledge. It makes sense to explain spiritual things using human wisdom. Metaphysical science
always tries to dissect spirituality and comes up with new terms to segment spiritual truths. It uses manmade words such
as “karma”, ether
or “etheric”, exaggerations about Ancient Atlantis, and teach the false doctrine of reincarnation,
etc.
This is man
using his or her over active intellectualism
to try and make sense of his spiritual reality. Modern
psychologists also try and categorize things by making up names
such as “ego”, Higher Self, Inner
Self, etc.
The fact
is we as fallen humans cannot truly understand spiritual things using materialistic understandings and trying
to label experiences or ideas. One thing all humans should begin to understand is the
fact that there is “good”
and there is “evil”,
there is death and there is life. Humans struggle within themselves
to choose good over evil. This proves what the Bible calls
the “sinful-nature”.
How do we deal with sin? When we do what we know is wrong and
then regret it…that is being conscious of
sin. Humans have always struggled with questions such as “What happens when
you die? Is there a spirit?” Religion seems to be a natural response to such
questions. The fact that we recognize spiritual
things shows that we have a spirit to
sense such things.
Creation Reveals God
When we look
at the kosmos, all of creation, we cannot
help but wonder about an Ultimate Creator. The
Bible says that we are without excuse
regarding this issue (Romans 1:20). King David marveled that God would
even take out time to think about “little man” (Psalm 8:3-4).
Ancient Job
was completely humbled when he contemplated the universe and all of creation (Job 42:2-5).
From creation we learn that He exists and that He is a God of relationship.
When we watch animals take care of each other and their young we see the caring Spirit in all living things. God
has mirrored much of His character through creation. We also see law and order in the design of creation.
Design
implies a Designer.
Natural law means that there is a Law Giver. What sustains all things?
What holds all things together? Who decided to give life and take life? Life itself means to be “alive”. Who created life?
The Creator Reveals
Himself
We really
cannot compare the Almighty God
to anything. The Bible does teach that He is a Divine Family: Father, Mother, Child. At the same time He is way above our Human understanding. He loves us so He has given us terms
and language through which He can
communicate to us. Humans have described God anthropomorphically,
using human anatomy and explanations to express [describe] God and His character.
The most important object that we have is the Written Word of God, the Holy Bible. The Bible should become the study of your
life. God talks through His word and starts a personal relationship with all those who
truly seek Heavenly Father through His Word.
Some
things that the Bible reveals about God for us are;
-God is
self-existing
-God is not
bound to time
-God can be
everywhere at once
-God has
unlimited power
-God creates
knowledge and is never bound by it
-God is
transcendent
-God is
immanent
These are just some of the ultimate and almighty
aspects of the Person of God.
What is God?
According to the Bible God is definitely a “person”, He
has personality. To us God is invisible yet
discerned spiritually and comprehended as a person. God makes
promises through His word and then keeps them. We serve a covenantial God. The Bible describes God using
human language so that we can grasp His reality. The Bible describes God like a
“Rock”, “a fortress”, “a consuming
fire”, etc.
God is also a
“Family”.
God is ONE GOD yet manifested in THREE PERSONS. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Through Jesus Christ we are invited to become legitimate children of God and thus
a member of the God Family.
God calls
us into a family relationship with Him. In this life we will never fully understand our Heavenly Father but we are promised that as we grow in our
faith and ultimately when we receive our glorified
bodies we will have a much greater understanding than we do now (1st Corinthians 13:12).
When we look at Jesus Christ, listen to Jesus Christ, obey and love Jesus Christ we have most certainly met God. Jesus Christ is God manifest for us in “the flesh”.
It is my hope
that you begin to study with us here at “The Shepherds Way”
& “Nugget of Truth” and become a true child of God. God’s word is uplifted here above all
else (Sola Scriptura).
Resting in the
finished work of Jesus Christ - my
Lord, God & Savior.
