"I don't want your message!"
Are
you remaining Teachable?
By Eric William King
Many Christians are in danger of fighting against Truth
regarding things that they haven’t properly studied. Most Christians today are
going to a church where the message of salvation is being rehearsed over and
over again. There is no depth for the
one who needs Christian maturity. Sadly, most modern sermons are “self-esteem” oriented.
Fallen psychology
has entered almost every church. Instead of teaching God’s word we listen to
stories that the pastor wants to share about his vacation and family. When God’s
word is really taught all should really listen and always be ready to learn
something new. Just because you as a Christian haven’t heard something
regarding a theological issue before doesn’t mean that it may not be true. The
Bible instructs us to listen.
“He who answers before listening –
that is his folly and his shame.” [Proverbs 18:13]
A True Bible Teacher will not insert his or her “ideas”
into Scripture but instead will let the Bible (God’s Word) do the teaching.
Many of you who have studied here know that I say: “We do not teach the Bible, we let the Bible teach
us.”
“A fool finds no pleasure in
understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.” [Proverbs 18:2]
When God
brings deeper understanding of His word to us it is foolish to shut ourselves
away from it. Many refuse to hear due to denominational prejudice. Many say
things like: “That is not how I was taught therefore it is not true.” To
condemn a message you refuse to hear is stupid.
“There is a way that seems right to a
man, but in the end it leads to death.”
[Proverbs
16:25]
I have
experienced many speak rudely about a person whom God has actually sent to
bring messages of correction. Another problem that we experience is some people
like to do fault finding with the messenger. Instead of focusing on the message
it is very easy to attack the sins of the messenger. King
David once stated;
“For troubles without number surround
me; MY SINS HAVE OVERTAKEN ME, and I cannot see. THEY ARE MORE THAN THE HAIRS
OF MY HEAD, and my heart fails within me.”
[Psalm
40:12]
And yet God
used him as the greatest King of Israel. David’s son was Solomon
who fell into great sins and yet he wrote the “Book
of Proverbs”. Learning from our mistakes is in fact wisdom. There
are sins that we will all struggle with until the end.
Sadly, many
congregations have spiritually “fallen asleep”,
they are in the Laodicean condition. Many
are afraid of going deeper into God’s word because they do not want to change
their current lifestyle regarding a specific issue. They follow the mainstream Christian crowd for fear of
sounding “fanatic”.
It is true
that the Christian church today needs to heed the counsel Jesus gave to the
Church of Laodicea.
This counsel produces the Straight
Testimony. The Truth always causes a shaking to occur.
Many will
always rise up against the Truth and its messengers. This is what causes the
shaking even in the midst of the church. When a true Christian tries to bring
correction to a doctrine that has been mishandled and taught - then the sparks fly.
The
introduction of Truth can make the rebellious sinner very uncomfortable.
Pastors and churches that have become too comfortable [Laodicean]
will rebuke the newcomer and his or her in-put many times. Many believe that
all agitations and commotions are a “bad thing” but these
are in fact sometimes needed to WAKE UP THE SLEEPING CHURCH!
Satan’s agents
fight against the hearing correctly
of God’s unsealed Word. God is
sending the Straight Testimony (True Gospel) into many fallen churches to
awaken the sleeping saints. God calls all who truly want His Word to awake out of spiritual sleep.
Soon the
fallen government will aggressively go after the Word of God to try and completely
“shut it up and shut it out”. Only
those Christians who have truly studied God’s word will be prepared to handle
this correctly. Everything is going to be shaken that can be shaken. Only
God’s Truth will be that which stands in the end. Do you know the Truth?
The Flying Scroll
Unfortunately
many have the Word of God sitting on a shelf someplace in their residence yet
they are not reading or studying it. Thus, when it is too late the words of the
Scroll having to do with judgment will answer their souls. The Unsealed Scroll
(God’s Word)
will enter their homes with judgment.
“I looked again – and there before me
was a flying Scroll. He asked me, “What
do you see?” I answered, “I see a flying scroll, thirty feet long and fifteen
feet wide.” And he said to me, “This is the curse that is going out over the
whole land [Earth]; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it
says on the other, everyone who
swears falsely will be banished. The LORD Almighty declares, “I WILL SEND IT
OUT, and it (the Word of God) will enter the house of the thief and the house
of him who swears falsely [lies] by my name [calls themselves “Christian”]. It
will remain in his house and destroy it, both timbers and stones.” [Zechariah 5:1-4]
This Scroll
is God’s word and this vision demonstrates its power. Because the message of redemption is rejected by the thief and the
liar it becomes a book of condemnation and judgment to them. When the Sixth Seal of this Scroll
is finally open then the judgment will commence. [Revelation
6:15-16]
It is my hope
that you stay teachable and remain in God’s word. Everything must be tested by
God’s word. We hold to Sola Scriptura
(the Bible
Alone).
“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he
who hates correction is stupid.” [Proverbs 12:1]
