Christians and the Human Will

Christians and the Human Will

As Ancient Antiochene Christians we can understand that the human will operates in four main drives. We find this when we study the human behavior in the Old Testament and we begin to recognize it in our own lives. We have these four basic instincts which drive the human will. All of these overlap each other in our experience:

1-The Family Security: Our lives growing up around adults. Our Father and Mother figures. This category also involves sex. Understanding the differences between male and female and the different roles they may play. The Bible defines the proper family relationship.

2-Material Security: This involves everything that we need and use in the material world. Food, clothing, houses, medicine, etc. The Bible defines our proper material needs.

3-Emotional Security: Our emotions guide us in almost everything. Learning how to manage our emotions is very important. The Bible gives us proper emotional directions.

4-Social Security: Our need and want for family and friends. What we do for a living and how we interact socially. The Bible gives us proper instruction for a healthy social life.

These are what we could call the four basic instincts. Non-Christians are predominately controlled by their “fallen nature”. All of these instincts are corrupted because of sin. The basic human nature is controlled by sinful lust and thoughts. The sin of homosexuality is rampant now in this fallen world. The first thing one must understand to become a true Christian is the reality of sin.

Today, modern psychology tells people that sin is something arbitrary and left up for the individual to define. As Christians we know that sin is not something “make-believe” but is in fact a true evil force. For Christians, the will is given up to God and controlled with the help of God. The Christian has the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Divine Intelligence is guiding the true Christian’s will, not his or her fallen nature. Though the Christian may fall into sin sometimes, he or she does not stay there very long.

As Christians, we do not run on “self-will”. Instead, we surrender our wills to the Almighty God – the True Parent. It is ultimately the human will that governs one’s conduct. Who is in control of your will? If you find yourself doing things that you don’t want to do sometimes, you are not in control of your will. The sinful nature is powerful and without Jesus Christ in your life you are lost on the “wide road”.

When we surrender our will to God, it does not make us lose our individuality or uniqueness. Instead, we begin to allow proper management to who we are – as Christians we are children of God. It is our hope that you continue to study your Bible’s with us here at “The Shepherds Way & Nugget of Truth”. Continue to learn and grow with us here. We are the Christian church – the “body of Christ” on earth.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
