Christians
and Worry.
Do
Christians sometimes worry? Of course. All humans go through periods, both long
and short, of doing some worrying. Some worry is okay - sometimes. If it
focusses us on a topic that we need to tend to. There is also a “frightful worry”
that is not really healthy, especially when it lingers. How should Christians
deal with worry?
In today’s world there is a lot to worry about. Jesus warned
that our planet would become more lawless, angry, and chaotic. Well, just turn
the news on for 10 minutes and you get enough of that. As Christians we are in
the growing process of keeping our consciousness aligned with the “Mind of
Christ”.
This means learning to trust in God no matter what we might be experiencing. This takes time. Our Christian faith must be practiced in order to become truly functional.
When we get bad thoughts regarding moral conflicts, hate,
anger, confusion, etc. we learn to reject those thoughts, we refuse to accept
them. This cannot be done in our own strength; it must be assisted through and
by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Ancient Antiochene Church of God has
called the Holy Spirit the “thought adjuster”. The Holy Spirit doesn’t
necessarily force us to make decisions but He can lead us and strengthen us to
make the right decisions.
As we learn God’s word and study it, this affects our
thought process. We think of God’s goodness, God’s love, forgiveness,
compassion, help and love – then we set the proper foundation for all thinking.
We learn to reverse bad thoughts and worrisome thoughts and we return to
perfect inner peace. The peace of Christ can “still” our mind (Psalm 4:4).
God is Divine Mind; Divine Intelligence and He is the only
true source of all goodness. Sometimes we begin to overly trust our human
senses and in our old “fallen nature”. We begin to lose trust in God. This can
create worry. As we learn to let the Holy Spirit guide us, we develop the
attributes of Divine Mind. Jesus Christ demonstrated perfect trust in God the
Father. He set a supreme example for all of us.
When we learn to fill our mind with the Divine Mind nothing
bad can enter. When Jesus Christ fills our mind there is no room for anything
else. As Christians we learn to filter our thoughts by using the Word of God in
all that we do. We also pray throughout the day and at night. We have a
constant contact to Divine Intelligence.
One thing that is good to practice is to start thanking God, praising
God when things seem out of place. Thank God for all that He has done and
continues to do for all of us saints.
Proclaim Bible verses in your mind – sing
Christian hymns. Keep praising God.
Look at all that God has blessed you with. Trust that He is
still going to provide. Do what is right and let God continue to clear your
path. Fill your mind with good thoughts daily (Philippians 4:8-9). We are also
told to “put on the armor of God.” (Ephesians 6: 10-19) Remember, you hold the
“remote control” to your inner mind channels, you must learn to “change the
channel” when bad and worrisome thoughts arise. It is also good to get busy
doing something when bad thoughts try and invade. Take a long walk – focus on
the trees and birds. One may even clean their house or wash the car. This is
good exercise and good for mental health. If you cannot move very well, try and
read something – get the mind on better things.
The more you use these techniques and listen to the Lord you
will develop better thinking skills. Studying the Bible is extremely important
and should be done every day. Learn to
fill your mind with God’s Truth and Love – knowing that you are a forgiven
child of God – knowing that He loves you and will never leave you nor forsake
you (Hebrews 13:5). Also, read what Jesus says in Matthew 6: 26 – 33. Remember,
develop full trust in God. Keep your Bible’s with you at all times.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
