Christians and Anxiety

Christians and Anxiety

Anxiety…you feel like something dreadful may happen any moment. You feel uneasy all the time. You feel like you need to do something but don’t know what it is. You feel something is wrong but can’t put your finger on it. Your mind swarms with bad thoughts trying to figure the whole situation out. Wow! This is anxiety at its worst.

All people have short or sometimes longer anxiety attacks. What brings them on can be a complicated matter. When a person learns to recognize, become conscious of such an attack then he or she can deal with it properly.

Anxiety takes a person captive with the emotion of worry. A person can feel like their emotions have complete control of them with no way out. In earlier articles we talked about the fact that you must realize that you hold the “remote control” to the “thought channels” of your own mind and you must learn to change the channel. We, as Christians, do this through prayer and resting in the promises of Jesus Christ. Our relationship with God is not just knowledge but a conscious conversation with a real personality.

We have also stressed the importance of getting to truly know God by reading and studying His written word, the Holy Bible. This takes time. When you first meet a person, you do not really know him, that takes hanging out with him and talking to him – spending time with people is how we get to know them. It is the same with God. After reading a portion of God’s word say a prayer: “Dear Lord, guide me and teach me. Show me what this passage means and help me to appropriately apply it to my life through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

God will guide you to become much more peaceful and less anxious. Just as a loving parent figure may hold you and comfort you in a time of stress, so the Holy Spirit is holding you through all your trials. Learn to listen to the voice of God which comes from inside your own spirit. As a begotten child of God (Christian) you are never alone. Pure happiness can fill the soul leaving no room for worry.

You can ask yourself: “If my best friend or a family member was feeling this anxiety, what would I tell them to help them?” You may surprise yourself as you begin to hear the Holy Spirit come through loud and clear. Take your own inner counsel sometimes – learn to truly listen. Once you give your emotions to God you must realize that He can feel exactly what you are feeling and He knows exactly what you’re struggling with. A fellow human cannot know these things but God can and does. This alone should bring some comfort.

Learning to be emotionally “strong” does not take you finding some special power or talking yourself into it. Instead, just surrender to God. Rest in Him. Allow Him to do the work in and through you. You are in good hands dear brother and sister in Christ.

As a child of God, you are a perfect reflection of His love. As a true child of God, you have the “mind of Christ” already in you. You must let this new mind speak. You have a new nature in Christ, you must let the new nature spring forth. You have become free in the power of Jesus Christ. Claim God’s promises for your personal life.

Thank you for remaining with us here at “The Shepherds Way & Nugget of Truth”. You are always welcome with us here. Keep your Bible with you at all times.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
