Christians
and Depression
It
has been recorded that depression is the first cause of disability. Our
thoughts and emotions strongly affect our bodies. The Bible has incidents that
prove this point. People who are trapped in sin, without hope, get sick and
mentally depressed. Only through a true relationship with God in the person of
Jesus Christ can help pull a person into true health and healing.
Even Jesus Christ “sweat blood” in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus understands what sorrow and tragedy can do to a person. He took our hurts
upon Himself. One has to truly understand this and experience this reality by
allowing Jesus to become real in everyday life. To know somebody, one must
talk and spend time with that person. Through prayer, worship, and fellowship
with Christians this can begin to become a reality.
There is depression to one extant or another at different
times in everybody’s life but clinical depression is chronic. We must pay
attention to the needs and hurts of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
We must learn to listen. The spirit needs to stay healthy. A person who has a
spirit of depression develops neurobiological problems.
Our enemy, Satan is constantly trying to control our
perception. All fallen humans without Jesus Christ in their lives have
distortions in their thinking that leads them down wrong paths. We live in the
Fallen Matrix; the program has become corrupt with sin. When a person truly
begins to understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the current state of
things, a platform develops which begins to lead to the proper direction for
true healing.
You have a purpose. In the Divine Plan of God, we all have a
special purpose. Your awakening to your call will help you progress properly in
this life. Jesus did not promise that everyday would be a “good day”. We see
the affects of sin and feel them in our everyday life. The point is, we are not
alone as Christians. We have the presence of God in our being. The Holy Spirit
becomes the true thought-adjuster, helping us to think in a healthy manner. We
are growing in our Christian faith. We must understand that every waking hour
is like a classroom. God wants us to learn and respond properly.
As a true Christian you have already been saved and
sanctified (set apart) to serve God. It is true that some people have
biological challenges that affect their emotions. If they get help and begin to
realize their situation in the proper light, much can be done to change things
for the better. Traumatic experiences can be healed supernaturally through our
Lord Jesus Christ. We must fully trust our Creator. God made us and completely
understands. He has forgiven us completely and wants us to truly realize this
miracle.
Apostle Paul states: “Forgetting what is behind, we move
forward.” (Philippians 3:14-15); We do this in true faith. Through repentance we gain victory. We must
repent of all our sins every day. We become more aware of our actions through
conscious prayer. We “practice the presence” of Christ. Wherever we go,
wherever we are, whatever we do we begin to realize that Jesus Christ is
standing right here – with us witnessing us at all times.
As Ancient Antiochene Christians we realize that God has
given us medical helps, medicines, and even some Christian counselors to assist
us and help when needed. It is never unbiblical to accept medical help when
needed. Jesus Christ is the ultimate healer. We always go to God first. Just
because we may sometimes feel alone, and that nobody understands, does not mean that
we are not Christian. God is still with us; He will never leave nor forsake us.
In ending this short article of thoughts regarding Christians and depression, we can never over stress the fact that you need to truly
believe in the full Christian message. True strength, emotionally and
spiritually, occurs when you get into the Word of God seriously. Study all of
our talks, lectures, and articles. Keep your Bible’s with you at all times.

O God, from whom come all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works, give to me, Your servant, that peace which the world cannot give, that my heart may be set to obey Your commandments and also that I, being defended from the fear of my enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen
