The Christian and Anger
The Christian Bible has many verses
about anger. In today’s world we see anger blossoming into violent acts. We
have entered the harvest of violence. People are so spoiled in the decadence of
the current atmosphere that if they do not get what they want, well, they will
kill you or hurt you. This is a sign of spoiled rotten “children” who have no
understanding of Truth and decency.
Jesus even states that the seventh-church, the last day church of Laodicea
has become “neither hot nor cold” but simply “lukewarm”. We live in a time ripe for war. God has used
war to humble the decadency of many nations. The Bible even declares, “there is
a time for war”. Perhaps we have reached that time.
Nothing is wrong with the emotion of anger per se, the problem is with how
we handle it. God informs us; “Be angry, and do not sin: don’t let the sun
go down on your wrath.” (Ephesians 4:26) One must learn to not hold on to
anger. Jesus informs us to be careful with the emotion of “rage”. Jesus tells
us to learn to love those who disagree with us. Jesus does allow some anger for
a proper “cause”. (Matthew 5:21-22)
It is true that “words” can hurt. All fights start with words. Words can
have a devastating emotional affect on a person. Sometimes it is okay to
temporarily repress anger, but only for a short time. We can release the
emotion in private prayer with God. Antiochene Christians have always
recommended taking a walk when you get angry. Sometimes a good long walk is
good.
By talking to God and taking time out you can learn to face your personal
anger issues. Give them to God and ask Him to transmute your anger into
unconditional love. Being a Christian takes much personal work but it is all
worth it. Surrounding yourself with mature Christians and friends is very important.
If you do not pray and talk to God about your issues they begin to collect in
the “closet” of the soul. This is dangerous. You must face your emotions in
privacy with God and allow His word to instruct you. If you are a true
Christian, you have the Holy Spirit which is the supernatural strength needed
for any amount of Christian maturity to begin.
Those who feel the need to constantly keep everything “perfect” as a
control over their emotions find that they experience rejection, failure, and
criticism anyway. That is just how the fallen world works. We live in the
Fallen Matrix. This must be fully recognized and truly accepted to begin the
true reality process. Those who do not receive true forgiveness do not have a
good understanding of themselves. They become depressed, bitter, and angry.
True Christians have immediate forgiveness from God and fellow Christians. This
is the foundation of the proper and healthy life for the Christian.
When you have an outburst of anger immediately ask God to forgive you. Then
rest in prayer with God. Make immediate amends, if possible, to those you may
have hurt. Sometimes you may just need to remove yourself from a location for a
time. Through Christian prayer and focusing on specific Scriptures from God’s
word, God will help you to successfully refocus and collect your thoughts.
Realize that you have the person of the Holy Spirit in you, holding you and
comforting you.
By thanking God for all of the blessings in your life and remembering how
God has helped you through all things in the past will diffuse your anger. The
attitude of gratitude is powerful. Don’t let self-pride take the reigns of your
life. Rest in the power of God and His strength will always help lead, guide,
direct, and protect you.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
