Confessions of the early Church ~ AACG

The Ancient Antiochene Church of God

And Confessions of the early Church

Christians today believe in many different things when it comes to Biblical interpretation. Why? The churches today try and dis-attach themselves from what they call “religion”. In doing so they have neglected the early confessions of the church. The early church had to respond to false teachings and confirm the proper and early apostolic understandings and interpretations. They did this through writing confessions and creeds.

Ironically, some churches who claim that they are against creeds and confessions will still offer a “one through 28” list, confession, of their understandings. The reality is, it is still important to respond with confessions today with all the new issues that arise in the modern world regarding how to live a proper Christian life.

We, the Ancient Antiochene Church of God, hold to the early confessions of our fellow saints. The AACG holds to the following confessions:

1-The Small Catechism (written by Luther in 1529)

2-The Large Catechism (written by Luther in 1529)

3-The Augsburg Confession (written by Melanchthon in 1530)

4-The Apology (written by Melanchthon 1530)

5-The Smalcald Articles (written by Luther in 1537)

6-The Formula of Concord (written by a committee of Lutheran Christians in 1577)

All of these were written during the time of the Reformation in response to the Roman Church. The Roman Catholic Church needed correction. There were no major “denominations” back then. Only the Greek Church and Roman Church held the claim of Christianity. Both of them had become very corrupt with false teachings, practices and claims.

We believe that God called Martin Luther to spark the Reformation. The Reformation was really a Restoration. Through Martin Luther and his personal studies and research God exposed the errors and pointed to the Pope as one who had the Antichrist spirit.

All of the above confessions can be found in one volume called “The Book of Concord (agreement)”. The Ancient Antiochene Church of God today advises all Christians to own a copy of it. We read it in conjunction with our Bible studies. Todays Christians do not understand the true history of their own faith. This is why Presbyter King, who founded the major modern ministries of the Ancient Antiochene Church today, continues to teach the true history of our Christian faith along with stressing the true teachings of Scripture as handed down through apostolic succession. Presbyter King comes in line with the apostolic succession handed down through the true Lutheran Church.

Since many new errors have troubled the church since the 1900’s we have had to continue to expose new errors and restore proper Scriptural understandings. We are always in a “spiritual battle” to make sure that we hold to “the faith once delivered” (Jude 3).

Many Christians today will claim that they do not hold to any “confession” or “creed” yet they attend a church that does have a list of beliefs. If they do not agree with all of these beliefs yet still go there and support that church, they are openly supporting something they claim to have error. This is the sad condition of todays “fallen” denominations and so called “non-denominations”.

As true Christians we are to be in agreement with our testimony of faith. All AACG Christians stand apart from the fallen churches in this regard. The Scriptures warn us:

“If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.” (2nd John 10,11)

Apostle Paul advises us:

“I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions (denominations) among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.” (1st Corinthians 1:10)

As Presbyter King always stresses, the Ancient Antiochene Church of God is not a denomination or non-denomination, nor is it a non-profit organization. We are simply the true remnant of the First Church – the “church of the First Born”.

We are the “body of Christ” on Earth. The body is one unit. A true Christian church will always want and desire to confess the whole truth of God’s Holy Word. A true Christian will openly reject everything that is false.

We encourage you to study your Bible’s with us here at “The Shepherds Way (TSW)” & the “Nugget of Truth”. There are no fines, fees, or forms to fill out to become a true Christian. We welcome all Christians who have been baptized by the Water and the Word. Welcome!

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
