Christians and Focus

Christians and Focus

Upset. We all experience times of being upset, uneasy, disturbed, and sad. Our inner harmony gets thrown off by circumstances that upset our daily patterns. God wishes us to be stabilized in all troubles. This happens through the process of getting to truly now God’s word and how it can direct your life. Thoughts that get our minds off of Christian stability are not from God.

Sometimes it is as simple as relocating, getting out of a specific environment. We can learn to peacefully change our environment when it is possible, without upsetting others. When things seem overwhelming it is important to enter prayer. Begin to talk with God. Tell God how you are feeling, even though He already knows. God likes to hear us and then we wait, wait for that still small voice to give proper direction.

It is very important to read and study God’s word. Learning to pick up your Bible and read verses that come to mind. Think on what you read and how it affects you. Ask God to lead, guide, and direct your thought processes. When sadness comes on, let it come and allow yourself to feel. Suppressing any emotions to the point of anger is not healthy. Crying is actually a healthy release. Crying can help you relieve stress and anxiety.

When we learn to validate our emotions then we can properly deal with them. Reading the Scriptures which deal with forgiveness and God’s unconditional love can help to comfort uneasiness. Learn to let the Holy Spirit help change the “mind channel” when the thoughts try and produce depression or anger. Don’t allow the mind to trap your emotions on things that happened in the past. God has forgiven and God wants us to look forward.

Getting outside and taking walks or even running is important. Many never go outside and enjoy the trees and birds and all life. Looking up at the sky, noticing the clouds. Looking up at the stars at night and the moon. This is very important. We must learn to get our mind off of ourselves sometimes and notice just how awesome our world really is.

If you live with family members, learn to respect each other’s quiet times. When together learn to listen to each other without interruptions. Support each other’s interests. Help each other out when needed without complaint. Pray together. Spend quality time together realizing at all times the presence of God.

Also, making sure that you get enough sleep and rest. Rest can occur by just sitting down sometimes. Thinking clearly occurs through getting the proper rest and sleep. Also eating good food. One doesn’t have to be a vegetarian to be healthy. Eating a good meal at least once a day and proper rest make a huge difference. Develop a routine and schedule. Start your day with prayer and Scripture readings.

Throughout your day learn to read God’s word. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner – don’t just eat regular food but include the Word of God and prayer throughout the day. Talk to people. Have some sort of regular communications throughout the week. When the weekend comes, go to church.

True Christians gather around each other. When church comes Christians understand themselves as all part of the same family, the family of God. Liturgical worship, all singing together and worshiping together in harmony – this is the worship that God loves. Spending holidays together with other Christians is a gift of God’s grace. Partaking of the Eucharist weekly with the rest of the “body of Christ” is extremely important. Remember what your baptism into Christ means and understand that your baptism is affecting you every day.

In your baptism the “seed of faith” was planted. Those around you have helped to water and you are continuing to grow. Thank God for your baptism. Sometimes it is good to tell yourself; “I am a baptized child of God.” You can rest in what God has done for you every day.

Finally, try and read the Small Catechism every day. Say the Apostle’s Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and pray every day. Always remember, you have been saved by God’s grace through faith, and that not of yourself. It is God who continues to sustain us every day.

By practicing the things mentioned in this short article it will help you stay focused. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
