Christians,
Envy, and Gossip
Envy
and gossip…. realities that can create problems. What is “envy”? It is
basically desiring something that doesn’t belong to you. The Bible would call
it “to covet”. To want something so bad that does not belong to you that you
would steal it if possible. This can be a “thing” that somebody else owns or
has, it can be a person – some covet other men’s wives. It can also be a
favored attribute or skill of another person that you do not have.
Jesus Christ teaches us not to “covet” those things which
are not ours to begin with. Some things that we may want, and don’t yet have,
we must work for if we truly want them. Other things we can never get because
they simply are not ours to begin with. Jesus taught that if we truly have God, we
have all that we will ever need.
Today people are still defined by what they have and don’t
have. Materialism is still the deciding factor for fallen mankind. You may have
heard the saying; “He who dies with the most toys, wins.” This is the immature
childmind that never grows up, even in some “adults”.
Many today fight over name-brand clothes and accessories.
Why? They want others to notice them and what they have “achieved” in this life.
There is nothing wrong with buying quality stuff and name-brand stuff but what
is the motive? God is “spirit”. True reality is found in spiritual things, not
material reality. Your spirit will never die and it (you) are the most precious. To save
your spirit from the penalty of sin and death it cost the most expensive price,
the death of the “only begotten Son of God”. Why did God allow His son to die
for us? He is our Creator; He is our Father – true LOVE caused God to do what
He did.
Divine Love is higher than any human concept. In the human
fallen nature people struggle with envy, rivalry, revenge, jealousy and even
hatred. Gossip is when others begin to talk bad about a person that they have
decided they don’t like. Stories are exaggerated and made up to defame the
character of another. This is pure evil. Sadly, people who talk bad about
somebody every day, or fault-find others all the time have nothing really good
to explain about themselves. They “envy” what somebody has and are usually
jealous. Jealous people will say things like; “I hate that person.” Hate is
evil.
The Christian must learn not to pay any attention to the
gossiping horn. The person who gossips is trying to get “a rise” out of the
person that they do not like. It is their way of trying to “control” the other
person. As a Christian, we pray for such people out of true love for their
salvation and soul. We may remember when we did some of our own bit of gossiping.
Christians should never gossip.
Really, this fallen world can never give the Christian
something that he or she doesn’t already have so we should not envy. Don't let people judge you about what you have and have not. Sometimes we let ourselves punish
ourselves over what somebody else has said about us. Why do we let others have
such a power over us? We must learn to give all of our emotions to God. God
knows the truth about any situation, we can rest in Him. When somebody shoots a
bad word or two at you, you do not have to take it. It is only an arrow if you
let it be one. Gossip will harm the gossiper. Don’t let pride control your
actions or mouth. Rest in God’s perfect love and God will see too it that
things are properly taken care of His way and in His time. Do not let the
faults of others become your faults.
As Christians we recognize the fact that we are in a
spiritual battle. We have already won through Jesus Christ our Lord but we must
be ambassadors in this fallen world. Ambassadors of the coming Kingdom. All of
planet Earth’s kingdoms will ultimately perish. Through Christian maturity we
learn to properly act and react to the situations that this life gives us. The Holy
Spirit impowers us and helps adjust our thoughts and actions.
Learn to fill your mind with Divine Mind – the “mind of
Christ” every day. As Christians we are true children of the Most High. We have a
better destiny than those who refuse our Lord. Let us strive to demonstrate our
faith not just through words but through our everyday actions. We invite you to
study your Bible’s with us here at “The shepherds Way & Nugget of Truth”.
Watch our talks, lectures, and sermons. We offer the true Gospel of Jesus
Christ for no cost ever.
We are keeping you all in our prayers. May the grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ be with you.
