What is Truth?
What is “truth”? Ultimately, pure truth cannot be defined by human words.
When humans discover certain facts, there is always more to be discovered and
then understood. God instructs us in His word to gain knowledge and wisdom
(hokmah). God says; “…my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6) The
knowledge that God wants us to have is proper relationship knowledge, all other
knowledge flows from this foundation. Ultimately, Jesus Christ is the Truth. First,
we must acknowledge Divine Intelligence – God, and then develop a proper relationship with Him.
As Christians we also understand that God left us His word. We do not
serve a God who has not left us some form of communication. The Bible also
instructs us that “God can be seen in the things of creation.” (Romans 1:20) When we study
the laws of science, we gain knowledge - and through true philosophy (application
of knowledge) we gain wisdom. We only gain “Truth” through our spiritual
relationship with God through the person of Jesus Christ.
It has been said that “knowledge” deals with facts; “wisdom” with proper
relationships; “Truth” with static reality of eternal values or the true
“religious” experience. Humans tend to dogmatize religious experience due to
the fact that it is the strongest driving force in humans. Through the true
Christian experience, a person develops the proper discerning tool for ultimate
Truth. The merging of the Holy Spirit with the human spirit creates a “new
creature”, the pre-celestial being.
Right before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Pontius Pilate asked Jesus;
“What is Truth?” Jesus gives no recorded response. It simply states that Pilate
walked back out to address the Jews. The fact is, the “Truth” was right in
front of Pilate, standing there beaten and abused. This is how fallen man
treats the Truth today.
As true Christians we teach that humanity lives in a Fallen Matrix, a
distorted reality. Sin has infected the cosmos. God, out of His mercy, has
given us tools of perception in this Fallen Matrix. We have five physical
faculties to sense our outer world. The senses go into our emotional body and
we try and gain some sort of understanding. We even use our mental body, our
reason and logic for discernment. The problem is, all of what we use produces
distorted perception because of sin. God allows people in their fallen
condition to come to this realization. Once they understand their true
condition the power of hearing the Word of God can invite them to gain the “new
birth”.
Without Jesus Christ in a persons life, he or she only has the carnal nature –
the corrupted nature. The mental body, the emotional body, and the use of the
five faculties is corrupted. The person needs the indwelling of the Holy Spirit
to gain new birth and proper understanding and true perception.
Even though one becomes a true child of God by accepting Jesus Christ he
or she still maintains individual experiences and a special individual
personality. God has placed us all in a three-dimensional playground to grow
and learn. We gain personal truths in our experience of Jesus Christ as
Christians. We develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord
through his word and the Holy Spirit.
We invite Christians and those who are truly seeking God to continue to
study with us here at “The Shepherds Way & Nugget of Truth”. Please read our
articles and listen to Presbyter King’s talks. Use your Bible every day and
remain in personal prayer.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
