Laodicea and
Isaiah ch.55
We
find counsel given in Isaiah ch.55 which elaborates on the counsel given to the
seventh church of Laodicea. We read in the counsel to Laodicea;
Jesus says; “I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in
the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover
your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.”
(Revelation 3:18)
We read in Isaiah 55:1;
God says; “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the
waters: and you who have no money, come, buy wine and milk without money and
without cost.”
What are we to “buy” without money? It says “wine” and
“milk”. The wine represents the “blood of the New Covenant” (Mattthew 26:27-28)
and the milk represents the “milk of the word” (1st Peter 2:2). If
the gospel is free, which it is, what do we “buy” without “money”?
It only costs your “ears”. You must listen. The Bible tells
us that true faith comes through hearing. “Consequently, faith comes from
hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”
(Romans 10:17) Continuing on in Isaiah ch.55 we read;
“Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on
what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your
soul will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; hear me,
that your soul may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my
faithful love promised to David.” (Isaiah 55:2-3)
We notice that God informs us to “listen” more than once.
God states that He wishes us to accept the “everlasting covenant”, this is the
New Covenant. We also note that this
“everlasting covenant” has to do with King David and the promises that He made
with David. These are the Kingdom promises. In 2nd Samuel ch.7 God
makes the Davidic Covenant, an unconditional covenant that shows that the
Kingdom of David is in fact the Kingdom of God.
The Laodicean church is to
have proper knowledge of the restored Kingdom of God. When Jesus the Messiah appeared, Israel thought that
He would set up His kingdom right away, but He did not. They did not understand
that in order for anybody to properly enter the Kingdom they must be “washed
clean” both “inside and out” of all sin. Then they must receive a completely
new body, one that can never sin again. They did not understand the atonement
that Jesus must give first. They didn’t understand that He must die.
After His death and resurrection, all those who
accept His atonement can inherit the Kingdom. Jesus, in the meantime, would
build His Church, so that He could call all people into the Kingdom before He
finally sets it up at the Second Coming. We live in a special dispensation (the
sixth). The Christian Church is the Kingdom in Mystery. We are that Kingdom and
ambassadors of that Kingdom. The Christian Church is a spiritual organism, the
“body of Christ” on Earth. Chosen before the “foundation of the Earth.”
(Ephesians 1:4) Jesus spoke about this “Kingdom mystery” in his parables.
It is my hope that you continue to study with us here
at “The Shepherds Way & Nugget of Truth”. Keep your Bible’s with you at all
times.
