Christian Antiochene understanding of “sin”.

Christian Antiochene understanding of “sin”.

Christians talk about “sin”, what is sin? True Christians understand sin to be that which is contrary to God or against God. We (The Ancient Antiochene Church of God) understand that God is LOVE. God defines true love for us in His word. We serve a God of morality, honesty, justice, compassion, mercy, and TRUTH.

So “truth” is also defined properly by God and not by fallen man. God is our ultimate parent (the Creator). Just as small human children do not always understand why their parents tell them to obey certain commands, adult humans do not like God telling them what to do either. This is just how fallen human nature reacts to Divine Revelation as a whole.

If there were no sin there would be no sickness, death, lying, cheating, adultery, murder, etc. All things that most understand to be “evil” or wrong would not exist if there was no such thing as “sin”. For the “begotten” child of God (the True Christian) there is really no such thing as sin – the Christian has become saved. What “Good News” this is for God’s true children. Though we (Christians) still have to live in this Fallen Matrix amongst sin and sinners, we have been “set free” from the fallen matrix.

This does not mean that Christians do not still struggle with their old nature, because they do. What has become different for the Christian is the fact that she or he has now gained a “new nature”, a sinless nature through Jesus Christ our Lord. True Christians are honest about their old sinful nature and have constant forgiveness and strength to become a better person through God’s unconditional love.

God is “GOOD”, God is “LOVE”, God is without “SIN”. So, God’s mind has no sin, nothing bad, no evil. God is in everything but not everything is in God. Apostle Paul says that through Jesus Christ we have the presence of God in us (us Christians) and Paul calls this “a mystery”. How can God dwell in a fallen human being? He does it by His supernatural love, through the Holy Spirit. Those who are not “saved” (not Christian) do not have the presence of God dwelling in them. One must become “born from above” in order to become a true child of God.

We must understand that for the Christian, their spirit has merged with the Divine - Christians actually become partakers of the Divine Nature – this is a mystery.

When the Holy Spirit comes to live inside the Christian, God begins to help the person adjust proper thought patterns, sinless thought patterns. This is the power of God working within His children whom He loves very much. Through the person of Jesus Christ, the sin question was answered. Jesus becomes the perfect sacrifice, paying the penalty for sin, for the begotten child of God. Yes, evil has a cost – it has a consequence. Not all humans want consequences for their choices, they believe that they should be able to do anything they wish.

God has demonstrated that He is a God of justice, there are penalties for bad choices. Nothing in creation could have paid the price for the evil of sin. Sin is too powerful for humans to fix or conquer. It took God Himself to intervene on our behalf to fix this problem. This is why the person of Jesus Christ is so important for the true Christian. Only through Jesus Christ may we be restored into proper relationship with our Parent Creator.
