Christians,
the Fallen Matrix, and Autism
What
is “autism”? This personality condition has been defined by modern psychology
to be a disorder which involves many things, as most disorders do. As Ancient
Antiochene Christians we study the science of Christian thought which simply
means that we study God’s word with modern ideas and understandings of human
emotions, desires, thinking, and so-called personality “disorders”. We do this
with the proper understanding of God’s word. We do this because, as Christians,
we wish to share the true Gospel of Jesus Christ with all people that we can.
In order to do this properly it is important to have a basic
understanding of the overall human condition. As Christians we understand that
it is sin that causes all problems – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual,
etc. The Christian Bible shares much of the early history of humanity with the
ancient Hebrew people. We believe that God chose them for a reason and purpose.
Recorded in our Bible’s is how mankind interacted with God [Divine
Intelligence] throughout the ages past and into our current age and also how
God has responded to man.
We believe that we are living in the “second earth age”, the
“sixth dispensation”, and in the “seventh church epoch”. Before the first earth
age there was what we call – the First Earth. This was long ago, before Adam
and Eve and the creation of mankind as we know mankind. We believe that a great
rebellion occurred and a spiritual and physical war broke out on the first
earth which destroyed it and brought the disease of sin into our created
matrix. Thus, we believe that all creation that we experience as human is
distorted and has become what we call the Fallen Matrix.
God then recreated the surface of the earth and thus began
what we call the “first earth age”. Since the Great Flood we are in the second
earth age.
Because of this, many things are distorted – human thinking,
human biology, science, everything. Humans do things that are wrong because of
sin and the fact that humans are infected with it. We should never think that
our problems are just because of something that we did or said. Many of our
problems are just the fact that we live here, in the Fallen Matrix. We are all
in the same “boat”, so to speak.
Because of sin, human genetics has distortions and problems.
Some of these specific genetic disorders are handed down because of the sins of
our ancestors. We must never be over-hard on ourselves but instead, begin to
learn about the true human condition and accept the cure through Jesus Christ
our Lord. We believe that Jesus Christ came to earth to show us the Way and to
offer us healing and restore right relationship with us and Divine Intelligence
[God].
Having stated all of this, let us look at a disorder called
“autism”. This is a mental disorder related to physical brain development. All
of us have experienced to one extent or another some problems with
communicating to others and even socializing with others but for the person
experiencing autism this becomes chronic. There is actually what is called a
“spectrum” of issues involved in autism. Spectrum means that multiple issues
create the autistic condition.
Those who know what to look for can see the development of
this disorder when the person is a child. Many children who have this disorder
have a difficult time playing with other children. They show are difficulty
socializing in school and at home. Many try and avoid eye contact when speaking
to others. Many who have autism find it hard to express things with words. They
ovoid over analyzing or ordered thinking processes. Not because they wish to
but because of concentrating problems.
People may have autism in different forms. In some it is
mild, in others moderate, or severe. Some people have this behavior which seems
to turn itself on and off. We still do not fully understand what may trigger
this. Again, a major symptom is trouble with communicating and applying a
healthy social order with others and with what they may know in everyday life.
They may exhibit frustration in social situations more often than common.
Each person is unique whether one has autism or not. As
Christians we never try and “fit everybody into a box”. Each person is
different - by God’s grace. We are all unique humans, created in “the image of
God”. As Christians we must approach everybody as a respected individual, each
dealing with his or her own individual issues. Not everybody who has a hard
time socializing has autism. Not everybody that has hard times communicating
has autism. We cannot always diagnose everything and everybody. We can pray for
those in whom we may recognize some disorder in their everyday functioning.
By educating ourselves on these issues it helps prepare us
as Christians to be responsible in our interactions with everyone we meet and with
those we wish to share the Gospel with. Many autistic people may not want
“religion”, and this we must respect when talking to them about “spiritual”
issues. As Christians we have the Holy Spirit to help us discern when we need
to back away, or stop sharing. This is important. As Christians we always
remain in healthy prayer with God and ask for His guidance.
Here is a basic list of what autistic people may develop and
show in their actions. This is in no way an ultimate test regarding the issue
and other symptoms could be added.
1-They seem to be unconscious of others who may call out
their name to start a conversation. They have developed what we call “selective
hearing”. They may even appear to have a hard time hearing.
2-Many have difficulty having eye contact with the person
they talk with and some develop a non-emotional expression on their faces when
being talked to.
3-Many stay away from regular conversation. When they do
speak it may be only to ask for something or call something by name – label
things.
4-Many do not like to be held or touched. As children they
prefer to play alone.
5-Seem confused regarding simple directions or questions.
6-Desplay a desensitized attitude regarding tragedies or
time of regular excitement.
7-Do not seem to understand regular body expressions in
communication such as facial expressions and changes in tone of voice.
Other
characteristics of those who have autism have been studied by many behavior
experts and psychologists. They list some of the following as behavior
practices in those with autism:
1-Make body motions and movements which become repetitive
and “normal” to them. This involves body movement habits – playing with their
hair, moving their feet a certain way, rocking in chairs.
2-They create little habits that if broken create a mental
disruption.
3-Many lack physical coordination and move in ways not
common.
4-Become preoccupied with details but have no idea what the
details mean.
5-Picky about their food. Very selective and don’t like many
kinds of food. Also show concern about certain food textures rather than of
taste.
These are some behavioral conditions that become clear in an
autistic person. We must understand that all humans have some of these symptoms
but that does not make them autistic. It is important for all of us, as
children of God, to become educated and aware of our fallen condition and how
it affects us. As Ancient Antiochene Christians we learn to properly care about
ourselves and other people. We always remain in fellowship and prayer.
If you think you may have all of these symptoms and struggle
with depression it is important to seek professional help and healthcare. Many
have become clearer thinkers and at peace through prayer and proper help. These
issues are caused by genetic as well as environmental factors. Sin is something
that all humans struggle with. We have the ultimate healing answer, His name is
Jesus Christ.
Stay with us here at “The Shepherds Way & Nugget of
Truth”. Keep your Bible’s with you and remain in fellowship and prayer. We
remain in prayer for all struggling with this issue.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
